Do you know what a puppy mill is? Well it's a a facility that breeds dogs under unaccepted (somewhat illegal) breeding conditions. Breeding of this kind will cause chronic health problems, hereditary defects, and also temperament issues in puppies that come from this mills. Puppies that have been bred on these mills are usually sold in pet stores to unsuspecting customers.
These facilities have the worst conditions for breeding. Dogs or puppies are usually kept in overcrowded and unsanitary rooms. Most, if not all, of these puppies do not receive adequate food, water, or health care.
If you are considering buying a puppy here are some tips to secure a healthy, well socialized dog who doesn't come from a puppy mill:
1. Consider adopting a dog instead of buying one.
2. Look for a responsible breeder. Go and inspect their premises if you have to.
3. Do not believe in everything a pet store says. Most of the time, the pets that they're selling come from puppy mills.
4. Resist the temptation of rescuing a dog or a puppy from a puppy mill. Though your intentions are good, this will just put more money on the puppy mill itself.
